You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone

Health insurance can feel overwhelming — especially when plans, pricing, networks, and enrollment rules can vary. We help make the process easier to understand, so you can make an informed decision about your coverage.

With Acuhawk Insurance Solutions, you get:

Professional guidance at no additional cost to you — from comparing options and enrolling to questions that come up throughout the year.

Straightforward, pressure-free support — we’ll explain your options, answer your questions, and help you understand the tradeoffs.

A real person to call after you enroll — whether you have questions about your coverage, need to report a change, or need help figuring out where to turn.

And that support doesn’t end once your coverage begins.

What Type of Coverage Are You Looking For?

Health insurance isn't one-size-fits-all. Choose the path that fits your needs and we'll help explore your options.

Individual &

Family Coverage

ACA Marketplace coverage for individuals, families, and many self-employed people.

Small Business Health Benefits

Group health insurance and benefit options for employers and their teams.

Medicare

Coverage

For people approaching 65, already on Medicare, or otherwise Medicare-eligible.

Supplemental, Dental & Vision

Additional coverage that can complement your primary health insurance or help with specific needs.

How Health Insurance Costs Work

Insurance terms can be confusing. Here is a simple, educational breakdown of what actually impacts how much you have to pay and what you should consider when comparing plans.

Premiums

The fixed amount you pay every month just to have your insurance active, regardless of whether you go to the doctor.

Deductibles

The amount you pay out-of-pocket for medical care before your insurance starts paying its share.

Out-of-Pocket Maximum

The most you will pay for covered in-network services during the plan year before your insurance pays 100% of covered costs.

Copays & Coinsurance

A copay is a fixed dollar amount for a service. Coinsurance is a percentage of the bill you share after meeting your deductible.

Networks

Insurance plans use provider networks. Staying in-network usually lowers your costs and gives you access to negotiated rates.

Subsidies

Many Marketplace plans may qualify for financial assistance based on household income, which can lower monthly premiums and sometimes other out-of-pocket costs.

Every health plan balances these costs differently.

The lowest monthly premium isn’t always the lowest overall cost.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Your reason for needing coverage doesn't always determine which type of insurance is right for you. Start with what sounds most like your situation, and we'll help you understand what may come next.

I’m losing my current health coverage

Losing coverage through an employer, Medicaid, a spouse or another source may give you an opportunity to enroll in new coverage. Your options can depend on your age, Medicare eligibility and other circumstances, so it’s important to understand both what you qualify for and when you need to act.

I need health insurance for myself or my family

If you don’t have access to health insurance through an employer—or coverage there isn’t the right fit—you may have individual health insurance options. We can help you compare Marketplace and other available plans, including whether you may qualify for financial assistance.

Explore Individual & Family Coverage →

I'm turning 65 or already have Medicare

Medicare comes with its own choices, timelines and rules. Whether you’re approaching 65, retiring after 65, or already enrolled, we can help you understand Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and prescription drug coverage and compare the options available to you.

Explore Medicare Coverage →

I'm self-employed or own a small business

Being self-employed can open up several ways to approach health coverage. Depending on your situation, that might mean individual coverage for yourself or your family, or exploring group benefits for your business and employees. We can help you compare the possibilities.

Explore Coverage Options →

I want dental or vision coverage

Dental and vision benefits aren't always included with medical insurance. Stand-alone plans can help with routine exams, glasses and contacts, dental cleanings and other services—and may be available even if your medical coverage comes from somewhere else.

Explore Coverage Options →

I’m worried about expenses if I get sick or injured

Even good health insurance can leave you with deductibles, copays and other expenses. Hospital indemnity, accident and similar plans can provide benefits when certain covered events occur, helping you handle costs your primary health insurance may not fully cover.

Explore Supplemental Protection Options →

I want to protect my income if I can’t work

An illness or injury can affect more than your medical bills—it can also affect your paycheck. Disability insurance can provide income protection if a covered illness or injury keeps you from working.

There’s More to Compare Than the Monthly Premium

Two health plans can have similar premiums and work very differently when you actually need care. We help you look beyond the price tag and consider how a plan may fit your healthcare needs, budget and priorities.

Your Doctors & Hospitals: Are the providers you want to use in the plan's network?

Your Prescriptions: Are your medications covered, and what might you pay for them?

Deductibles & Cost Sharing: What could routine care, prescriptions or an unexpected medical event actually cost you?

Maximum Out-of-Pocket Costs: How much financial exposure could you have in a higher-use year?

How You Expect to Use Healthcare: Someone who rarely sees a doctor may value different plan features than someone who regularly uses specialists or medications.

The Monthly Premium: What does the coverage cost each month—and how does that compare with the benefits you're getting?

The goal isn't simply to find the cheapest plan. It's to help you understand the tradeoffs so you can choose coverage that makes sense for you.

When Can You Enroll in Health Coverage?

Timing matters when it comes to health insurance.

Some coverage is available year-round, while other plans have specific enrollment periods or require a qualifying event. Knowing when you can enroll can help you avoid gaps in coverage or missed opportunities.

Annual Enrollment Periods

Different types of health coverage may have annual windows when you can enroll, change plans, or review your options. The timing and rules vary depending on whether you have individual coverage, employer-sponsored coverage, or Medicare.

Life Changes & Special Enrollment

Certain changes—such as losing coverage, getting married, having a baby, moving, or a change in eligibility—may create an opportunity to enroll or make changes outside the normal annual enrollment window.

Turning 65, Retiring & Medicare Changes

Medicare has its own enrollment rules and timing. Turning 65, retiring after 65, losing employer coverage, or already having Medicare can all affect when you can enroll or make changes.

Not sure whether you can enroll or make a change right now?

Enrollment rules depend on the type of coverage and your situation. We can help you determine what options and timing may apply.

Insurance Options Are Easier With Someone in Your Corner

Meet Nicole...

Health insurance can feel complicated. Helping people make sense of it is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

Nicole is the owner of Acuhawk Insurance Solutions and an independent licensed insurance broker serving clients in Nebraska and Iowa. She focuses primarily on health, Medicare, life, and related coverage, helping individuals, families, and small-business owners make sense of options that can often feel unnecessarily complicated.

Her approach is centered on education first—explaining the choices, answering questions, and helping clients understand the tradeoffs so they can make informed decisions about their coverage.

Health Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Does it cost more to use a health insurance broker?

Generally, no. For the insurance products we offer, working with Acuhawk typically does not increase the premium you pay. Insurance brokers are generally compensated by the insurance carrier when coverage is placed, allowing you to get help comparing plans and understanding your options without an additional broker fee.

❓ I’m losing Medicaid. What should I do about health insurance?

If you’re losing Medicaid or CHIP coverage, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that allows you to enroll in an ACA Marketplace health plan outside the normal Open Enrollment Period. Don’t wait until you are uninsured to explore your options. We can help you understand your enrollment window, check whether you may qualify for Marketplace financial assistance, and compare available plans.

If you believe your Medicaid is ending in error or due to needing additional infomration, contact your state Medicaid agency before assuming you need replacement coverage.

❓ Can you help me determine whether I qualify for an ACA Marketplace subsidy?

Yes. ACA Marketplace financial assistance, including the Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC), is based on factors including your expected household income and tax household. We can help you estimate whether you may qualify and compare plans using that assistance. Final eligibility is determined by the Health Insurance Marketplace. For tax advice, please consult your tax advisor.

❓ Can I buy health insurance outside the ACA Marketplace?

Yes. Depending on your location and circumstances, individual health insurance may be available directly from an insurance carrier or through other channels outside the Marketplace. However, ACA premium tax credits are only available through the Marketplace. We can help you compare available options and understand the differences.

❓ Can you check whether my doctors and prescriptions are covered by a health plan?

Yes. We can help check whether your preferred doctors, hospitals and prescription medications are included when comparing health insurance plans. Provider networks and drug formularies vary by plan and can change, so important providers and medications should also be confirmed with the insurance carrier.

❓ Can I get health insurance outside Open Enrollment?

Possibly. Certain qualifying life events—such as losing eligible health coverage, getting married, having a baby, or certain moves—may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Other types of insurance may have different enrollment rules or be available year-round. We can help determine which enrollment opportunities may apply to your situation.

❓ What health insurance options do I have if I’m self-employed?

Self-employed individuals can often purchase individual or family health insurance, including ACA Marketplace coverage if eligible. Depending on how your business is structured and whether you have employees, small-group health insurance or other benefit options may also be worth exploring. Acuhawk works with self-employed individuals and small-business owners to compare available approaches.

❓ When should I start looking at Medicare before I turn 65?

Starting several months before your 65th birthday gives you time to understand Medicare and prepare for your Initial Enrollment Period. If you plan to continue working past 65 or have employer-sponsored coverage, your enrollment decisions may be different. We can help you understand the timing and coverage choices that apply to your circumstances.

❓ Can I buy dental or vision insurance without changing my health insurance?

Yes. Stand-alone dental and vision insurance can often be purchased separately from your medical insurance. You may be able to add dental or vision benefits without changing your existing health plan, although plan availability and enrollment rules vary.

❓ What states does Acuhawk Insurance Solutions serve?

Acuhawk Insurance Solutions is an independent insurance brokerage based in Omaha, Nebraska, serving clients in Nebraska and Iowa. Available health insurance, Medicare, dental, vision and other coverage options vary by state, county, carrier and individual eligibility.
